The diocese of Kinkiizi has different departments that include the development department among others. The development department is the planning and development unit of the Diocese. It has its mandate of planning right from the grass root churches up to the diocesan.
There is a team at every church level with clear objectives to foster development and ensuring systematic planning. This team meets twice a year .The first time is at the end of each year and another one in June for evaluation.
At Diocesan level, the team is comprised of The Diocesan Bishop, all heads of department and all Archdeacons. This team analyses all the issues in the Diocese and forward them to relevant boards and committees for implementation. This leads the Diocese to come up with a year planner that is punctuated with several diocesan activities.
The Development department has several projects that include, integrated rural development programme, Village savings and Loans association project.
Under Kinkiizi integrated rural development programme, several components are addressed.
These include, capacity building, data management, Networking and Collaboration, Lobby and advocacy, Community based financing scheme, Environment protection, water and sanitation, and gender mainstreaming.
Achievements of this programme include; improved methods of farming, improved and adopted crop varieties, improved food production for home consumption and for sale .House hold incomes have improved.55% of the Kanungu population have access to clean water.
Another project that has improved house hold incomes and general livelihood is Village Savings and loans Association.1250 groups have been formed mobilized and trained.
The major objective of this project is to instill saving culture and business skills to all Kanungu people.
At the moment over 3.5 billion Uganda shillings has been saved and over 5000 businesses have been started by individuals.
It has its unique methodology that aims at building the capacity of members in managing their own projects. It has several other indirect trainings that include time management, accountability, honest and integrity among others.
