Scholarship Program

Some of the sponsored students at Kinkiizi High School with their sponsorsPart of the church's mission is to help our young people prepare for a day when life will be better. One way of doing this is through the Scholarship Program. Bishop John and Late Patience Nuwagaba began this good work several years ago aiming at giving girls some education by helping in paying their school fees. The program gives those from very poor homes and especially orphans and girls, the chance of an education to at least O-level standard. This program is coordinated by Rev. Marvin and Mrs. Sue Bamforth who are now resident in England (after living and working for many years in Cyprus). Rev. Can. Marvin spends 4 weeks each year in Kinkiizi. They are assisted by Mr. Orishaba Emmanuel who sits at the scholarship desk at the Diocesan Office. Following a Synod decision in 2000 three school became part of this program - Bishops Primary, Kinkiizi High and Nyakabungo Girls. Part of this work also involves helping some 80 pygmy children with their school fees. These young pygmy children are doing very well at school. Since the birth of this program, there are over 1000 sponsored children/students both in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary/Universities. Universities and Tertiary Institutions where our students are doing further/higher education or vocational training are: U.C.U Mukono, Bishop Barharm University Kabale, YMCA, Nkumba University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, and several Vocational/Business centres. We thank individuals and group Donors for supporting the Diocese in its ministry of helping those least able to help themselves.
