All Saints Kanungu C.O.U Archdeaconry

St. Peters Catheral, NyakatareAll Saints Kanungu C.O.U Archdeaconry All Saints Kanungu was officially opened on 1st October 1995. The Church rapidly grew from a hill of St. Peter’s Cathedral Nyakatare, to a sub-parish, parish and an Archdeaconry on the same day. According to previous church census, the Archdeaconry has population of about 13,250 Christians who are mainly Bakiga.

Appreciation goes to Mr. & Mrs Mathew Rukanyangira (Catholics) who agreed to sell their space to the church when the then Bishop John Wilson Ntegyereize approached them with the idea of constructing a church in the town. The piece of land was later exchanged with local government for a church to be built at a hill. The Local council III executive chaired by Mr. Bernard Bandahura with a recommendation from the then Chief Administrative Officer; Mr. Moses Kanyarutokye and the then District Health Inspector; Mr. Wendo Wilbur agreed to relocate the town market to the church land (acquired from Rukanyangira) and leave the land on a hill for construction of All Saints Church.
